Susan, an alumna of the University of Michigan School of Art and Design, was an accomplished artist. Among her honours and awards were the Bradley C. Barnard Award (1985), American Watercolours, Adirondack National Exhibition; the Ottawa Club of Printing House Craftsmen: "In recognition of excellence in the printing field within the Outaouais Region," First in Category (1987); and the Whitton Award: "In recognition of your tremendous contribution to the community in the area of Arts & Culture. Your dedication as a leader in our community is appreciated by your neighbours and peers." Susan also worked until 2000 as a graphic designer for magazines and journals in the art department of a variety of organizations, including the Canadian Dental Association and Canadian Geographic. Susan passed away in August 2019, and her husband kindly donated two of her works to support Hopewell’s cause.
