Family & Friends Support Group

from $0.00

This eight-session group is an opportunity for parent, caregivers, partners and friends of individuals struggling with an eating  disorder to receive support in a warm and empathic environment. Topics may include the following:

∙ Understanding eating disorders

∙ Meal support and symptom interruption

∙ Emotional support through the use of emotion coaching skills

∙ Repairing relationships

∙ Obstacles and blocks in the caregiver’s journey

∙ Self-care for caregivers

∙ Styles of caregiving

∙ Navigating the system of care

∙ Dealing with stigma

Group facilitators spend part of each group providing education and skills practice, but considerable emphasis  is placed on open discussion and peer support. This group is open to parents, step-parents, grand-parents,  aunts, uncles, spouses, partners, friends and any other adult caregiver - whether or not they are involved in  active treatment with their loved one, and regardless of age and motivation to change.

This group will begin October 16th and will take place in-person at Anchor Psychological Centre, meeting weekly on Wednesdays from 6:30pm-8:00pm. Hopewell recognizes the financial cost of accessing treatment and workshops to support your loved ones. We are offering this 8-week group at a cost of $80 for an individual, or $125 for two people from the same "circle". As always, we also offer a pay-what-you-can option, as well as all services free of cost for individuals identifying as Indigenous, First Nations, Métis, or Inuit/Innu.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to our Programs Officer, Catherine, at programs@hopewell.ca
