TROtt Horse Stables
We’re trying something a bit different for this social event - we’re going to venture out to Greely to visit TROtt stables for an afternoon hanging out on a farm with horses on Saturday, June 22nd, from 2:30-5:00 pm! TROtt isn’t an ordinary stable, they specialize in therapeutic horseback riding and equine (horse) assisted learning for folks with a range of disabilities.
Psychology researchers have also explored how equine-related therapies may be beneficial for mental health illnesses, including eating disorders. A main factor in this research is that horses rely on non-verbal cues - whether you are verbally communicating your feelings or not, the horses pick up on it. Through engaging with horses, we can learn how to regulate our emotions and be mindful with our current task. Along with this, equine-related therapies can help enhance self-esteem through taking care of another being, as well as building trust with others.
Along with our time spent on the farm and with the horses, TROtt has a lovely space we can head to afterwards for some reflection and debriefing, activities, and snacks! Like always, we ask for a payment of $5 for the event, but if cost should ever act as a barrier to accessing our services, please reach out to Catherine, our Program Coordinator (email below) and we will cover the cost. Additionally, should you wish to attend but have no form of transportation (location is in Greely), please reach out to Catherine and we will do our best to provide you with a form of transportation.
Questions, concerns? Reach out to Catherine, our Program Coordinator - programs@hopewell.ca
